Last Exit Closing

Are there any bars for live music left? About a week ago there was a cryptic myspace bullitin from Violet Wild about their upcoming last shows at Last Exit. It was unclear whether it was Violet Wild's last shows, Last Exit's last shows, or Violet Wild's last shows at Last Exit.

I recieved confirmation today that Last Exit is closing their doors in, seemingly on April 25th, judging by their calendar. Violet Wild, The Black Moods and Strange Young Things is an appropriate lineup, all of which I think of Last Exit being home to. Not to mention that being a fucking sweet lineup in general that I'd want to see.

But yeah, really sucky news - I loved Last Exit and was looking forward to hanging out there again soon.

I recently heard that the new Black Moods shows were a limited thing, and sans Kevin Prier again, which all seemed really weird - but makes sense now, those shows are probably just because the Last Exit is closing.

So it's yet another great bar down. Goddamn the city of Tempe!

It posses the same question as when Wongs closed - where the hell are all these bands going to play now?

Another Quiet Day At The Office...

It's that time of the year again - when it gets really noisy in the office. Not because of goings on inside the office, but the Grand Prix happening across the road.

With the recent move down to this end of the office, and the F1's starting up, it's definitely hard to miss that there is a Grand Prix happening this weekend! [smile]

So, I know I'm over RCPM, but I have to admit that I've been checking out the Glow In The Dark stuff each week. Old habits die hard, or something like that.

This week's track is Sin Nombre, which is fucking haunting. I initially thought it was because I've never heard them do it before. But, I have. Hell, I've seen them in the flesh do it. So, it's not that. It's just a ridiculously great live version of the song.

It's a long ride back to the way I want to feel. Or a long sleep.

I don't know whether to say "Rock!" or "What The Fuck?". Either way, there is a new hair band on the Arizona scene, featuring Bobby Scott (Mink Rebellion) and Chris Serifini (Ghetto Cowgirl)! And now you see what I mean! Rock! But what the fuck?!?

Ultimately I'm quick excited by this, despite struggling to come to terms with the reality of it! [smile]

Hairforce takes O'Malleys back to the 80's.

In other exciting news (which I predicted months ago, thank you very much), my associate informs me that there are new dates for Black Moods shows! Woo. Speaking of which, why the fuck isn't Mr. Kennedy in Hairforce?

Yet Another Earthquake

I just got out of a meeting, which was briefly interrupted by the second earthquake under two weeks.

I didn't realize that the one on the 6th was an earthquake until reports on the radio the next morning came through, explaining what caused the shaking of the house was (after going outside and being puzzled because there was not a puff of wind). However, today it was unmistakable - despite how shakey this end of the building is at the best of times.

Mozilla.org Vs. Mozilla.com

I'm not sure if I've blogged before on Mozilla.org being one of the sexiest websites on the internet. Sexiest - maybe an overstatement, however the design does, and always has, rocked my world. It's just really nice.

Checking up on what's going on with Firefox these days, I went over to Mozilla.com and prompted vomited over myself. Over, probably another overstatement (it's Friday afternoon and the beer fridge has been open for 2 hours, what do you want?). It definitely is not the most pleasing thing to me, pretty candy-ass looking, and reminds me of Twitter's site.

What's my point? I don't know really. Other than that the appealingness of both sites are really a great contrast in my eyes, and I'm really glad that the Mozilla.org still looks as good (and pretty much the same, if I remember correctly) as it did 4 years ago.

Slumdog Millionare

Tonight, since Katie was working anyway, I headed down for the GSA movie night. Ironically there has been no shortage of hot weather lately, but of course, outdoor movie event brings the bad weather. Surprisingly the rain mostly held off the whole night.

In anycase, the movie was Slumdog Millionaire, which I've known nothing about, save the star being the the John Stewart show in the last few months. From what I'd heard leading up tonight, it was questionable whether it was something I was going to be into. However, five minutes into it I was entirely into it. The cinematography was particularly appealing, and the whole idea of narrating a story through an episode was a very original and fresh idea. All in all, we both approve of it winning the Oscar, and give it a big thumbs up.

So, y'know I hate myspace, right? Right?!? As it turns out, it is sometimes useful. Just now the 'People you might know' flashed up Bobby Scott, and I happened to click on it - to be presented with a huge flier for the 'Mink Rebellion Reunion Show'!

Wow! First it's the Black Moods, which seemed concievable, and now Mink Rebellion, which I didn't think would happen it a million years. Freaking cool, but makes me really pissed I can't be in Tempe on the 20th!

Is this a sign of things to come? The Black Moods reuniting? Mink Rebellion reuniting? Come on guys, say it's so! Violet Wild can continue to play and record on the side!

There I go with my wishful thinking again! [wink]
