It's that time again for the annual rundown of the past year in music. In music for me that is.

This year has been a big year for new music - either music that has come out this year, or music I got this year. It's certainly been the year of The Maine, testament to that is that my most played CD this year is their E.P The Way We Talk. A 6 song E.P trumping all other full length albums really goes to how much I've played it this year. Impressive too is Can't Stop, Won't Stop coming in at #4, since it only came out in the last 6 months.

Violet Wild's long awaited full length has been in major rotation, which is both funny and impressive. Only funny in that none of the songs were new to me when it came out, as I've been playing mixes they put up on Myspace and elsewhere for the past two years. And impressive for the same reason - that despite playing that stuff incessantly last year, it still turned out to be the #4 played album this year.

I'm somewhat surprised by how much I've obviously listened to Saccharin & Trust and Spittin' Into The Wind this year, particularly the later, which doesn't seem like I've played incessantly, but obviously I've given consistent rotation to over the past year.

Turbo Ocho is also impressive that it made the top 10, purely given that after the first month or so, I've barely played it and it just scraped into the top 50 for the last 6 months.

Hymns For The Nonbeliever is another for the "not actually new this year file", but I got into this year.

Another "not really new, but new to me" album is Remedy For Everything by Chalmers Green, which I finally got a copy of this year. Similarly, this past year has been the most I've played Laurel Canyon. I've always been a "Live Black Moods is better than in studio" type of guy, but I've really dug Laurel Canyon a lot more this year, compared to the past. It didn't make the top 10 albums, but has been played a fair bit more rather than live shows - probably helped by listening to Remedy For Everything.

Another notable mention for this year is Look What They've Done To My Champagne Music by Strange Young Things. It hasn't been out long enough to make the top 10, but I've really been playing it fairly constantly for the past 2 months.

I've been saying for years that I wish they'd get back together. And they are, at least for one show. The Black Moods are playing Last Exit on New Years Eve. Gotta love Last Exit's tag line on myspace

There Back Baby!!! THE BLACK MOODS New Years Eve @ LAST EXIT
Dead Hot Workshop, Tramps & Thieves, Shelby James & The Cryin' Shames and the return of The Black Moods for for 10 bucks? Seriously? Why the fuck aren't we back in Tempe? Why!?

I know I shouldn't get my hopes up, but I feel that this won't be a one off thing. Here's to hoping!
