Tonight while looking for info on Strange Young Things, particularly whether they have a CD out yet, I came across a page of cool photos of many Tempe bands. Going through them, which was quite fun, especially with The Black Moods ones, I exclaimed "there's you!" to Katie - completely missing the fact that, well, there's me too!

Yet another photo, not of mine, from Arizona with me in it - cool!

Used To Be A Bitch

Now It's Just A Shame

It doesn't seem like that long ago (it was probably the end of last year) when Katie was talking about the Stephen Ashbrook song that references as B. Babb says 'it used to be a bitch, but now it's just a shame", and I was peeved that I hadn't heard it!

After copying the Creamy Radio gig from '05 onto her iPod, she informed me today that it's actually Bar Star. Pretty funny to think I was pissed about not getting to hear...a song that I've been listening to for almost 2 years. [lol]

I'd always sung "it used to be a bitch, but now it's just a shame", just never realised the "as B. Babb says", and so it's weird when she mentioned it at the end of last year that I didn't put 1 and 1 together!

It used to be a bitch, but now it's just a shame, cause you're my favorite game

The Waiting Is The Hardest Part

Last week KJ and I made a pact that we wouldn't look at the track list for the Scott Johnson record until we have it in our hands. The past couple of days have become difficult, as it's being talked about on the net, and it is becoming increasingly hard to not read anything we shouldn't - as well as increasingly hard not to just give in. Especially because apparently Johnson's got some of the tunes on his myspace page as of today.

For the love of God, here's hoping our copies arrive tomorrow.

Wrap Yourself In Black And Listen To The Cure

It was only 1 or 2 weeks ago that Katie and I were talking about The Cure, and how they're one band we want to say we've seen in our lifetime. Which is daunting, who knows when they'll call it quits...

Which makes it fairly spooky that, given that I discovered at work today that last Tueesday their Australian tour was confirmed. Needless to say, we brought tickets tonight. Pretty exciting, given that two weeks ago it seemed questionable we'd get a chance to fullfill that goal. [smile]

Right after sorting out my iPod with all the new Violet Wild songs (particularly the new mixes of Along For The Ride and Hitchhicker), there's a new mix of Water And Chemicals. The amount of Violet Wild songs out there now, is ridiculous. But I'm not complaining! [smile]

Hilarious.

At first when I read the article, with the smaller picture, I totally assumed that AZ Central had done something wacky with the photo, with photoshopped heads or something. It wasn't until I looked closer did I discover that it's a legit photo. Hilarious.

Back in the day Peacemakers singer just another dad (azcentral.com) would have been cool, but with the new album about nothing but the kids and family life, combined with the hideous photo, I can't do anything but laugh! [lol]

Funnily enough today while listening to Golden Age, and in particular, I Hate My Generation how the fundamental problem with Roger Clyne & The Peacemakers is that clearly Roger has not been listening to enough Cracker. Don't fuck me up with your peace and love! [biggrin] (Despite the fact that I have been listening toNo More Beautiful World a bit recently, and it's somewhat becoming more tolerable. But regardless, sneer Roger, more sneer!)

The weekly Wednesday meetings at work are great. This week I discovered that multiple logins using Remote Desktop Connection...

Concurrent Remote Desktop Sessions in Windows XP SP2 | Sig9

Something I've wanted to be able to do for years. As I write this we're watching TV full screen on once account, while I type this simultaneously over RDP on my laptop.

Yaay for Wednesdays dev ops meetings! [smile]

Edit: However this is the one I actually used: Terminal Server Patch at sala source.

Today listening to No More Beautiful World on the way from home I noticed that in addition to the obvious self rip offs, Wake Up Call is Better Beautiful Than Perfect redone. The second song off the album that is a rip off of something off of Sonoran Hope & Madness.

More Violet Wild Mixes

Last night, after the sad discovery that iPod doesn't play flac files, I rushed to convert the Violet Wild tracks I have to MP3, to listen to on my iPod.

As I said earlier, the amount of Violet Wild tracks I have is pretty impressive, and got me all the way to the city, which is a bit over 40 minutes worth. Pretty impressive, since they don't have anything released yet. Listening to the tracks on an iPod, the differences between the Steve French mixes and the most recent ones was very evident. Not that it hasn't been anyway, but... The other thing that stood out was the high end in the Steve French mixes, which I questioned whether was purely the mixes, or the fact that I recorded them using my laptop. Hence I decided to re-record them tonight.

Of course, most of the earlier tracks are no longer on Myspace. However, the upside on visiting Violet Wild's Myspace page I came across another new version of Along For The Ride. All the tracks have also been replaced with "EP 2007 Big Panda", which may imply that the CD is close to coming out. And may imply that Hitchicker, Luna, Rare Disease and Along For The Ride are on it. I don't quite like the newer version as much as the earlier version (and obviously not as much as the Mink Rebellion version), but as I've said before, you can never have enough versions of Along For The Ride. The version of Hitchhiker up there is also new - and has nothing on the Mink version, but that's okay too.

Finally, after a wait of just over two years (for me anyway), apparently Scotty Johnson's solo record is coming out. Available June 19, according to his myspace page.

Stop! Revisited

With another work week down for the count, I had some time to hit myspace and listen to Johnson's Stop! (Tempe Version). This time around, it wasn't hard enough to realise that this is indeed a different version to that on the Mayberry Sessions demos. At first I wondered whether it was just a different mix, however it's definitely a different recording - too cool.

Listening to it a few times, I had to remind myself that the version I am used to (Mayberry Sessions) is actually a demo - listening to this version, not that it's that diffrent), it was easy to forget that Stop! isn't on the album, and the version I'm used to is actually a demo itself.

With Stop! criminally not making it on to Major Lodge Victory, pretty cool that Scotty has made that version avaliable.

Furthermore, according to his myspace page, the solo record is coming soon - not that we haven't heard that before, but it would seem that the album is done and we might see it this year. Hopefully, it'll mean another version of Stop! to listen to. Unlikely, given that there are grave doubts he'll put it in the album - but hey, I can dream. Especially since the eJohnson version, while a close call, is marginly my favorite version of Stop!.
